Overview:
Rockwood’s first commercial space – the fully renovated Tiller Digital building is everything a modern office could hope to be. Impeccably styled, functional and ergonomic, this building features attractive offices, spacious board rooms, a full kitchen and even a gym for employee use!
Originally a church, and then later a Masonic Lodge, the building was in desperate need of a facelift for its new occupants. The new look for Tiller, a digital marketing company based in Calgary, was inspired by New York’s Chelsea Market. A modern/industrial aesthetic was achieved through the integration of clean and airy office spaces, exposed brick walls, rustic and natural woods, over-sized fans, and edgy, contemporary furnishings. Rockwood embraced this historic building, retaining and enhancing select pre-existing elements—for instance, original wood-plank floors were transformed by an unexpected darker stain, and original ceiling trusses were painted a soft white—maintaining the character and authenticity of the renovation. Bathed in natural light—thanks to floor-to-ceiling windows—this state-of-the-art commercial space artfully contrasts light with dark, rustic with modern, and function with style.
Technical Integration:
As a technology-based company, top-line tech integration within the space was critical to meet the needs of employees and clients alike. Rockwood implemented a fully integrated AV system, key FOB access throughout the building, wall-mounted “schedule boards” in all meeting rooms to ensure Tiller’s offices were state-of-the-art. To give this company’s space their desired “look and feel”, we added back-lit signage, TVs and screens in several key spaces, and provided full network integration across the office.
Intelligent Design:
Intelligent design was key. The Tiller offices needed to fit the needs of a work force that worked flexible but varied hours and needed a home away from home. Full wellness of employees was considered. A gorgeous, well-equipped kitchen allows staff to prepare and eat their meals at the office. A hip lounge space lets coffee lovers grab their commercial-grade caffeine fix whenever they need a boost. And a top-of-the-line gym, complete with basketball court, lockers and showers, encourages staff to exercise to keep their minds and bodies healthy.
To provide staff with maximum comfort while working, Rockwood designed the HVAC and mechanical systems to give every space and individual offices their own climate controls. Flex space was also important, so, Rockwood implemented dividing walls in one of the board room, allowing for two separate and private meetings to be held simultaneously. Lift-and-slide doors throughout the building were installed to provide a simulated outdoor feel for indoor spaces. Additional indoor and outdoor patio seating was constructed to provide staff with several areas to relax or meet.
